SUMMARY:Concert with Pickers Anonymous
DESCRIPTION:Join us February 23 at 7 p.m. in the Folk School Community Room for a concert with Pickers Anonymous! They are an old timey trio consisting of multi-instrumentalists Nicholas Edward Williams (American Songcatcher)\, Owen Grooms (Travis Book String Band) and John Benjamin Davis (John Hartford Fiddle Project). Collecting traditional material and presenting it with their own eclectic filter\, they layer high lonesome harmonies on Appalachian sounds from old-time\, bluegrass\, early country and hillbilly blues. Their debut record is slated for release via EarthTone Records. \n\n\n\nNicholas Edward Williams hosts the popular roots music history podcast\, "American Songcatcher." He is a storyteller and musicologist dedicated to "playing it forward\," by preserving music that has shaped our country: ragtime\, Piedmont blues\, traditional folk\, and early country. Williams has spent the last 15 years touring around the US\, the UK\, Western Europe and Australia\, blending the roots music spectrum. He's opened for Taj Mahal\, The Wood Brothers\, Dom Flemons\, CAAMP\, Town Mountain\, John Craigie\, Rachel Baiman\, and performed on three continents. William's debut record\, "As I Go Ramblin' Around" made the International Folk Radio DJ Charts in 2019 with the #6 Top Album\, #7 Top Song. Nicholas is also the founder and executive director of ReString Appalachia\, a 501(c)3 nonprofit dedicated to giving quality instruments back to people who lose them from natural disasters. \n\n\n\nA donation of $5-15 per adult is suggested\, but all are welcome regardless of contribution. Folk School Students and Staff are not asked to donate. Any funds raised support traditional arts and help us strive for equitable pay for performers. *Lineup and schedule are subject to change\, for the most up to date details check the schedule at folkschool.org/concerts.
