  1. Discover the History of the North Georgia Mountains
If you’re a history buff excited to learn more about Georgia history, we’ve got the perfect hidden gem for you. Located in Hiawassee, the Old Rock County Jail now stands as a testament to our area’s past. Built in 1936, the facility operated as Towns County’s jail until the 1970s, when a new facility was constructed. The Towns County Historical Society transformed the historic space into a museum, offering exhibits about the former jail and the town as a whole. Guests who visit this attraction can also explore the historic Presley Post Office, and view artifacts and photos from a Towns County of decades past.
  1. Soak in Sweet Summertime Views
If you’re looking for the ideal place to enjoy picture-perfect views of sparkling Lake Chatuge without dipping your toes in, take a drive up and visit Lake Chatuge Dam! The reservoir, which controls water flow to the neighboring Hiawassee River, features a 1.5-mile paved walking path that’s perfect for stretching your legs and soaking in the beautiful, natural scenery created by our lake and surrounding mountains.
